Hundreds of thousands march in London demanding lasting peace and freedom for Palestine

Hundreds of thousands of pro-Palestine demonstrators flooded the streets of central London on Saturday, demanding that the newly announced ceasefire in Gaza lead to lasting peace, justice, and liberation for the Palestinian people.

According to the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC), which organised the march, more than 600,000 people joined the demonstration against Israel’s ongoing genocide in Palestine.

The march brought together a wide range of groups, including the Muslim Association of Britain, Friends of Al-Aqsa, and the Palestinian Forum in Britain.

The demonstration began at Victoria Embankment before proceeding to Whitehall, where a large rally was held.

Stalls along the route sold keffiyehs and Palestinian flags, while the sea of demonstrators carried placards bearing slogans such as “Stop arming Israel” and “Free Palestine”.

Among those attending were Your Party leaders Jeremy Corbyn and Zarah Sultana, along with vocal celebrities such as Robert Del Naja of the band Massive Attack..

Saturday’s protest marked the 32nd national demonstration since Israel’s genocide began in October 2023.

The rallies have continued regularly across the UK despite heavy rain, police restrictions, and government criticism.

The latest march came a day after a US-brokered ceasefire took effect, offering a pause in more than two years of Israeli bombardment that has killed at least 67,000 Palestinians and injured nearly 170,000.

PSC director Ben Jamal said that protesters were still marching because Trump’s plan does not mean an “enduring peace” as it fails to address “the root cause of violence and says nothing about ending Israel’s military occupation.”

He added that demonstrations will continue “until the Palestinian people are finally free”.
