Buttercup Primary School: Nurturing thinking Muslims

Buttercup Primary School is a dynamic educational institution committed to providing an exceptional learning environment that blends academic excellence with the rich heritage of Islamic teachings.

Located in the heart of East London, the school offers a unique curriculum designed to cultivate well-rounded individuals who are both intellectually capable and spiritually grounded.

The school’s core philosophy centres on a holistic approach to education, fostering students’ academic, social, emotional, and spiritual growth. By seamlessly integrating Islamic values into the UK national curriculum, Buttercup Primary School creates a nurturing space where students can develop a strong sense of identity while acquiring the skills necessary to succeed in the 21st century.

Focusing on child-led learning, the school encourages students to explore their interests and talents while developing critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. The dedicated and experienced staff are committed to creating a supportive and inclusive atmosphere where every child feels valued and empowered.

Islamic teaching is incorporated into the UK national curriculum

Buttercup Primary School aims to produce confident, compassionate, and responsible citizens who are equipped to make a positive impact on their community and the world. Through a harmonious blend of traditional Islamic teachings and modern educational practices, the school strives to nurture future leaders who are intellectually astute, morally upright, and deeply connected to their faith.

Pupils enjoy playing various sports at the school

Headteacher Zara Rahman said: There’s a lot of creativity and fun and academics integrated within.

“Our aim is to provide a safe environment for the children where they will enjoy learning both the deen and the dunya.”

She added: “We try to create our children to become selfless as opposed to selfish. The school curriculum was inspired by some of the works from Ibn Khaldun and Imam al-Ghazali.

Prayer is a huge part at Buttercup Primary School

“It was all about creating the soul, looking at the soul and the human being. The real human being is you inside. Within our curriculum, we cultivated those kind of work so that our children get to understand who they are.”
