Fatima Payman: Australia’s first hijabi senator gives powerful speech

Fatima Payman made history by becoming the first elected representative to wear a hijab in Australia’s parliament.

Payman, who is of Afghan descent, gave a powerful speech in her maiden address to the senate.

She spoke about what the hijab means to her and encouraged young girls who wear the head covering to “do it with pride.”
