June 19, 2024 marks seven years since the tragic Finsbury Park mosque terror attack, a poignant reminder of the devastating impact of hatred and violence.
On this day, many honour the memory of Makram Ali, who lost his life, as well as the 11 others who were injured during that fateful evening in 2017.
What happened?
During Ramadan, worshippers gathered outside the Muslim Welfare House in Finsbury Park.
Suddenly, a van driven by Darren Osborne ploughed into the crowd, leaving destruction and heartache in its wake.
Makram Ali, a 51-year-old man, tragically lost his life, and the lives of many others were forever altered.
Mayor of London Sadiq Khan’s tribute
Sadiq Khan, Mayor of London, in light of today’s anniversary, he expressed his unwavering commitment to unity in the face of terror.
“Seven years ago today, Makram Ali was tragically killed, and 11 others were injured in a senseless act of terrorism during the holy month of Ramadan,” he said.
“Our thoughts and prayers today are with Mr. Ali’s family, friends, and all those affected.”
He added: “The response from the local community following the shocking attack showed the world how London stands united against hatred and terror in all its forms.
“London’s diversity is our greatest strength, and it’s a testament to our city’s character that this horrendous incident strengthened community bonds, rather than creating divisions.”
