US President Donald Trump on Monday unveiled a 20-point plan to end Israel’s genocide in Gaza.
The proposal calls for an immediate ceasefire, the release of captives held by Hamas, the group’s full disarmament, and a phased withdrawal of Israeli forces from Gaza.
It envisions the deployment of a temporary International Stabilisation Force (ISF) and the creation of a transitional authority — to be led by Trump himself, with the involvement of select foreign partners.
Critics say the plan effectively strips Palestinians of the right to self-determination by placing Gaza under external control.
Trump made the comments alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington, who approved the deal.
Hamas has yet to issue an official response, saying it is reviewing the decision with other Palestinian factions.
Trump gave them “three or four days” to reply, warning it would “pay in hell” if it rejected the deal, even as Israeli air strikes continued to kill civilians in the enclave.
Reaction from Muslim nations
Under the terms outlined, Hamas would be permanently excluded from governance in Gaza. The plan leaves room for the Palestinian Authority to assume administrative control but only after undergoing unspecified reforms.
The deal demands Hamas release all Israeli captives within 72 hours of a ceasefire, in exchange for a gradual Israeli pullback to a buffer zone along Gaza’s perimeter and the delivery of increased humanitarian aid to its 2.3 million residents.
The Palestinian Authority welcomed the proposal as did several regional governments.
In a joint statement, the foreign ministers of Turkey, Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Indonesia praised what they “sincere efforts to end the war in Gaza, and assert their confidence in his ability to find a path to peace”.
“The ministers welcome the announcement by President Trump regarding his proposal to end the war, rebuild Gaza, prevent the displacement of the Palestinian people and advance a comprehensive peace, as well as his announcement that he will not allow the annexation of the West Bank,” the statement read.
