We all say Astaghfirullah. It’s even gained popularity in non-Muslim circles, earning an entry in the Urban Dictionary. But what does it mean?

In this video, Imam Omar Suleiman looks at the concept of seeking forgiveness from Allah. He highlights how seeking forgiveness is essential to a person’s relationship with Allah and His willingness to forgive.  

When someone converted to Islam, the Prophet (SAW) would teach them salat and this dua:

Allahumma ighfir lee, warhamnee wahdinee wa’afinee warzuqnee
‍(O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me, and guide me, and give me good health, and provide for me.)”
