Watch: When is Ashura and what is its significance?

The Day of Ashura falls on Friday, 28 July 2023, the tenth day of Muharram, but what is the day’s significance in Islam?

It’s recommended that we fast on the day of Ashura as we get the reward of having an entire year’s sins forgiven.

As well as the day of Ashura, it’s also the sunnah to fast either the day before or after Ashura.

“The best fast after the month of Ramadan is fasting in the month of Allah, Al-Muharram” Sahih Muslim.

In this video, Yasrab Shah highlights why the day is revered and how it is linked with the story of Prophet Yunus (Jonah) (AS). Watch to find out more
