With Ramadan 2026 (1447 Hijri) only weeks away, many people are eagerly anticipating the exact start of the holy month.
Ramadan, the ninth and most sacred month in the Islamic Hijri calendar, officially begins with the sighting of the crescent moon.
So, what are the key dates for Ramadan this year?
As always, final dates depend on the confirmed moon sighting, but here are the provisional estimates:
- Ramadan — 19 February 2025 to 20 March 2026 (Taraweeh begins 18th February)
- Last ten nights of Ramadan (includes Laylat al-Qadr) — 10 March to 19 March 2026
- Eid al-Fitr — 21 March 2026
Ramadan is a time for Muslims to intensify Ibadat, give Sadaqah and seek forgiveness from Allah (SWT).
It’s the month the Quran was revealed to the Prophet (PBUH). A month where the gates of heaven are open, and the gates of hell are locked.
“The month of Ramadan [is that] in which was revealed the Quran, guidance for the people and clear proof of guidance and criterion. So whoever sights [the new moon of] the month, let him fast it; and whoever is ill or on a journey – then an equal number of other days.” Allah intends for you ease and does not intend for you hardship and [wants] for you to complete the period and to glorify Allah for that [to] which He has guided you; and perhaps you will be grateful.”
Surah Baqarah, Ayah 185
