The Quran memorisation app that helps you become a Hafiz in 6 years

Memorising the Quran is a lifelong journey, but what if a simple, structured approach could help you complete it in just six years?

That is the vision behind Muslim Pal, a Quran memorisation app designed to make learning more effective, engaging and accessible. And judging from user reviews, the app seems to deliver!

The idea came from Bilal Shabib, a seasoned software and video game developer passionate about combining technology with education.

Bilal, a Muslim born in Germany with Syrian roots, found it challenging for himself and his children to memorise the Quran efficiently. When he first looked for a Quran memorisation app that could help, he realised there was nothing truly built for memorisation — just apps for reading or listening.

Determined to fill this gap, Bilal used his technical expertise to build a tool to help Muslims worldwide. What started as a small side project has since grown into Muslim Pal, an app that has helped millions optimise their memorisation of the holy Quran.

“I thought other parents likely had the same issue,” says Bilal.“Initially, it was a test drive, English/Arabic only, very basic, Juz 30 only. My intuition proved to be right — the app was instantly popular, alhamdulillah.”

Muslim Pal – the daily companion

The app’s core focus underscores consistent, manageable learning. For example, by memorising just three verses daily, users can complete the Quran in six years — a mathematical reality that becomes possible through the app’s structured approach.

As well as Quran memorisation, users can deepen their connection with their faith by learning duas and the 99 Names of Allah by heart. The app now supports six languages with translation and verse transcription, offers a choice between reciters, and allows users to create different profiles for family members.

“We want Muslim Pal to be your “daily companion” for learning & memorisation – true to its name — a “Pal” in your spiritual journey,” says Bilal.

Despite working on the app for nearly 15 years, his passion remains unabated. The vision includes supporting more languages and collaborating with educational institutions and teachers to reach more in the community.

Soon, users will learn from educational “flash cards” on key historical figures — from Prophets and sahabas to scholars and other key figures in Islamic history.

Bilal’s spiritual motivation extends to how he approaches the business side of the app. Though not entirely free, he’s developing a donation-based model where financially able users can sponsor full licenses for those who can’t afford them — and track the impact of their good deeds.

And when users reach out to explain their financial constraints, Bilal makes it easy for those who yearn to learn: “I provide them with a free premium upgrade for one year, and then pray Allah (swt) enables them to purchase the full license the following year.”

Transforming lives one Surah at a time

Muslim Pal has come a long way from its humble beginnings. Since 2020, when Bilal began tracking in-app activity, users have played over 400 million Quran recitations — and that does not even include offline sessions.

Today, the app sees between 50,000 to 100,000 active users every month, and that number is steadily growing.

But for Bilal, the real success of Muslim Pal is not in the numbers — it is in the impact. “The most rewarding part is reading user reviews,” he shares.

“Seeing parents and children memorizing verse after verse, Surah after Surah, Juz after Juz – sometimes even completing their Hifz with the help of our app – and then making Dua for us. That is what brightens up my day.”

“And I sincerely pray Allah (swt) keeps our intentions clean… and that so many people connect with the Quran via our app helps in my Hereafter!”
