Muhammad tops another list for the most popular boys’ name in the UK, this time for a parenting website.
BabyCentre said that the name of the Prophet (PBUH) was the most popular name for boys in 2021, holding the top spot for the fifth year running with parents.
It comes after official government data in October from the ONS showed variations of the name Muhammad took the top spot in England and Wales in 2020.
BabyCentre said the name also tops the website’s most popular boys’ name of the decade so far. “Taking the trophy at number 1, the name Muhammad has won over the most BabyCentre parents’ hearts this decade. It comes from the Arabic name Hamid, and means ‘praised’ and ‘praiser of God’,” it said.
The highest baby girls’ names in 2021 with Muslim connections include ‘Zara’ (24) and ‘Layla’ (26)
