A week ago, the tragic death of Sir David Amess shocked the local community in Southend. He was a popular MP, described as an “upstanding friend” to the Muslim community.
The Conservative MP was fatally stabbed at his constituency surgery in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. A 25-year-old man, Ali Harbi Ali, has now been charged with his murder and is also accused of preparing acts of terrorism.
Sir David regularly promoted Southend and its causes and in honour of the late MP, Southend has been granted city status — an issue he was passionate about.
Islam Channel was at his constituency earlier in the week to speak to local Muslim leaders and find out more about the man who dedicated his life to serving his community.
