Peacock Supplies’ Eid card competition aims to aid UK foster kids

The UK’s largest supplier of multi-faith celebratory products launches its charity Eid card competition today.

Peacock Supplies’ competition is open to British schoolchildren of all backgrounds up to 18 years old.

Their designs will be assessed by a judging panel that includes leading Muslim illustrators and Adam Hargreaves, the renowned author and illustrator of the Mr Men and Little Miss books.

The overall winner will have their card produced and sold globally by Peacock Supplies, with proceeds donated to the Muslim Foster Network in Britain.

With Eid al-Adha fast approaching, many Muslims will send relatives and friends greetings cards on these special occasions.

This, coupled with charity being at the heart of the Islamic faith, led Peacock Supplies to develop their children’s charity Eid card competition concept.

Sarah Gulfraz, the founder and managing director of Peacock Supplies, said: “We want our Eid card competition to be a fun, creative annual event, which will not only help young people learn about Eid and Islamic art, but also raise vital funds for a national charity supporting Muslim foster children in the UK.

Each design submitted to the competition can be purchased as a bespoke pack of 10 Eid cards, creating an instant donation to Muslim Foster Network.”

“Our brilliant panel of judges will then pick the best card design for each age category, with the public deciding the overall winner. This card will be mass produced by Peacock Supplies and sold worldwide for the next 12 months.

“We will match-fund whatever is raised from the sale of these charity cards, with all proceeds going to Muslim Foster Network. Next year we will repeat the competition, so we get a fresh set of designs and raise even more money for these disadvantaged children,” she added.

Five great British illustrators will be helping Sarah Gulfraz to pick the winning design for 2023.

Adam Hargreaves has continued to publish the timeless Mr Men and Little Miss characters that were first created by his late father, Roger Hargreaves. In 2022, Adam published the bestselling picture book Mr. Men Little Miss Happy Eid, which broke boundaries by enabling children the world over to learn about and celebrate diverse religious festivals.

Adam will be joined by four of the UK’s leading Muslim illustrators: Zayneb (i dot doodle), Neamah (The Lettered Inkling), Maryam (Marz Art Studio), and Rabiya (The Mosque Sketcher).

Peacock Supplies’ charity Eid card competition is promoted by Islam Channel.

The competition is open to all young people in the UK and split into three age groups: 4-7 years old; 8-12 years old; and  13-18 years old.

All submissions must be hand-drawn/produced and a photograph of the image uploaded to the Peacock Supplies website by Monday, 19 June 2023.

The submitted design can be turned into a bespoke pack of 10 Eid cards with envelopes, which can be purchased for £10.

Each purchase will generate a £2 donation to Muslim Foster Network.

A short list of the entries will be published on Wednesday, 21 June.

The winners and runners-up for each age group will be announced the following week and their prizes – age-appropriate goody bags and hampers and Peacock Supplies vouchers – sent ahead of Eid al-Adha.

After the end of the four-day Eid festival, which is expected to run between 28 June and 1 July, the public will be invited to vote online for their favourite design from the three age categories.

The overall winner will be announced on Monday, 10 July. This young person will receive an additional special prize from Peacock Supplies, as well as see their Eid charity greeting card added to the company’s list of products and sold worldwide.
