Video: Slovenian Islamic Center set to be Islamic landmark in Europe

The Slovenian Islamic Center in Ljubljana took 50 years to build, but thanks to funding from Qatar that goal was finally achieved in 2020.

Last week, The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Slovenian President H E Borut Pahor inaugurated the mosque.

Work began in 2008, when its design was chosen from among 44 other designs, with Qatar contributing 28mn euros out of the total 35mn euros to build the centre.

According to the Qatar News Agency, as well as regular prayers the centre has educational services for adults and raises awareness about Islam to people in Slovenia. It also provides educational and recreational services for Muslim children and schools visit the centre and learn about Islam as well.

There are around 88,000 Muslims in Slovenia, around 3% of the total population, consisting mostly of those of Bosniak and Albanian heritage.
